Moms Matter Too: Supporting the Mental Health of Mothers

May is a time when we pause to celebrate mothers—their love, their sacrifices, and their seemingly endless capacity to give. At Endurance Mental Health & Wellness, we want to go a step further. This Mother’s Day, we’re not just honoring the moms in our lives—we're shining a light on their mental health, too.

Because the truth is, while motherhood can be beautiful, it can also be overwhelming. And mothers deserve care, support, and space to prioritize their own well-being—body, mind, and spirit.

The Invisible Load of Motherhood

Whether you're a new mom, a seasoned parent, or somewhere in between, the "mental load" of motherhood is very real. This refers to the invisible, constant mental juggling act moms perform—scheduling appointments, remembering birthdays, packing lunches, anticipating needs, and often being the emotional anchor for the entire household.

This ongoing stress can lead to:

  • Burnout

  • Anxiety or irritability

  • Emotional exhaustion

  • Difficulty sleeping or relaxing

  • Feelings of guilt or resentment

And all too often, these symptoms go unnoticed—because mothers are so used to powering through.

Postpartum Anxiety and Depression: More Than the “Baby Blues”

Many women experience mood changes after birth, but postpartum depression (PPD) and postpartum anxiety (PPA) are serious mental health conditions that deserve recognition and treatment. These can show up as:

  • Intense sadness or hopelessness

  • Racing thoughts or constant worry

  • Feeling disconnected from your baby

  • Irritability, anger, or guilt

  • Trouble sleeping, even when the baby sleeps

PPD and PPA can affect moms months—or even years—after giving birth. They are not signs of weakness or spiritual failure. They're common, treatable conditions that many women face, and seeking help is an act of strength.

Caregiver Fatigue and the Loss of Self

Even beyond the baby stage, many moms struggle with caregiver fatigue—the emotional toll of constantly caring for others. Over time, this can lead to a quiet loss of identity. Moms might wonder:

  • Who am I beyond being a mom?

  • What do I enjoy outside of caring for others?

  • When do I get time to rest or reset?

This shift in identity can feel lonely, especially if you feel like you've drifted from your sense of purpose or from God.

But you are not alone. And you don’t have to stay stuck.

You Can’t Pour From an Empty Cup

Supporting your mental health isn't selfish—it's essential. Here are practical ways moms can care for themselves—spiritually, emotionally, and physically:

  • Create small daily rituals just for you

A few quiet minutes in the morning to breathe, read Scripture, or journal can ground your day in peace.

Try this verse for meditation: "Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." – Matthew 11:28

  • Ask for help (and accept it)

Whether it’s a partner, friend, therapist, or a prayer circle—lean on your support system. God never intended for us to do life alone.

  • Reconnect with your faith

If you’re feeling spiritually disconnected, begin with small steps:

  • Keep a prayer journal

  • Listen to worship music while doing household tasks

  • Join a local moms’ Bible study or Christian book club

Helpful resources:

  • "Risen Motherhood" podcast (faith and mental wellness in motherhood)

  • She Reads Truth app (daily Bible reading plans)

  • Abide app (Christian meditations and sleep aids)

Support your body and mind

Supplements like Mitocore (for energy and daily wellness) or Inflammacore (for inflammation and protein support) can help reduce stress and improve sleep—essential for emotional and spiritual clarity.

Talk to a professional who understands your values

A faith-based approach to psychiatry is available at Endurance for those who want their Christian beliefs to be part of their healing journey. We offer a safe space to explore struggles while integrating prayer, biblical truths, and clinical support.

To Every Mother Reading This: You Matter.

You are more than a caretaker. You are a whole person, fearfully and wonderfully made, worthy of rest, joy, healing, and fulfillment.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate you not only for all you do—but for who you are.
